A comprehensive resource for partners - the Aligning for Equity Community Toolkit

Collaborators at the Georgia Health Policy Center Aligning for Equity project worked with community-based organization leaders Carla Lewis (ECO-Action) and Darryl Haddock (WAWA) on an interactive guide for equitable partnerships. The collaboration was supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Watch an introduction to the new toolkit from Carla and Darryl.

Partnership vignettes

The Partnership Vignettes Workbook contains four “vignettes”, or fictional stories that showcase typical events or occurrences. These were created by Michelle Marcus (Senior Research Associate, Georgia Health Policy Center) based on discussions with community-based organization leaders and community members in Atlanta between 2022-2023.

Each story narrates a potential experience of academic-community partnerships that is based on real-life experiences of community-based organizations.

These stories are meant to stimulate constructive critiques of these hypothetical partnerships in order to imagine better and more equitable ways that collaborations can be carried out.

Equity at the forefront

A core resource that underlies the goals and structure of the Community Science Collaboratory is the “People of Color Environmental Justice Principles of Working Together”(1991). This document lays out nine fundamental principles that are essential to understanding and accomplishing equitable collaborative work. Anyone interested in community-academic research partnerships may benefit from deeply reading and reflecting on this essential resource.
